About Selank

What is Selank?

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. It is an analogue of tuftsin, a naturally occurring tetrapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) known from immunology, extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence for greater stability.

Virexa Labs offers Selank as a lyophilised research peptide for in-vitro laboratory research only. It is not intended for human or veterinary use.

Structure and origin

Tuftsin is a fragment of the heavy chain of immunoglobulin G and has been studied for decades for its effects on immune cells such as macrophages. Like many short peptides, it is broken down rapidly. Researchers at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences – where Semax was also developed – added a Pro-Gly-Pro tail to create a more stable analogue: Selank.

Selank is registered as a medicine in Russia, but not in the EU. Within the EU it is available only as a research peptide.

As with Semax, much of the literature originates from Russian research groups, so independent data from other laboratories remain relatively limited. Selank is often discussed alongside Semax because both share the same Pro-Gly-Pro design.

Research areas

Selank has been studied in animal and in-vitro models, mainly in these areas:

Handling, reconstitution and storage

Store lyophilised Selank at −20 °C, dry and dark; 2–8 °C is acceptable for short-term storage. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water, added slowly along the vial wall, and swirl gently – don't shake.

Keep the solution at 2–8 °C, use it within about 4 weeks and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.

When you buy Selank for research from Virexa Labs, each batch has been tested by HPLC (≥99% purity) and mass spectrometry; the COA is linked on this page.

Frequently asked questions

What is Selank?

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro), a tuftsin analogue with a Pro-Gly-Pro extension. It is studied as a research peptide in stress, anxiety and immunomodulation models.

What is the difference between Selank and Semax?

Both are heptapeptides with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail from the same Russian institute. Selank is based on the immune peptide tuftsin; Semax is based on the hormone fragment ACTH(4-10). Their research focus differs accordingly: stress and immunomodulation for Selank, neuroprotection and BDNF for Semax.

What is tuftsin?

Tuftsin is a naturally occurring tetrapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) that is part of the heavy chain of immunoglobulin G. It has been studied for its effects on immune cells such as macrophages and forms the first four amino acids of Selank.

How do I store Selank?

Lyophilised at −20 °C, dry and protected from light (2–8 °C short term). Reconstituted at 2–8 °C and used within about 4 weeks, without repeated freezing and thawing.

Is Selank suitable for human use?

No. Selank from Virexa Labs is sold for in-vitro laboratory research only and is not intended for human or veterinary use.
