Our Sterile Water 2mL – Box of 10 Ampoules contains ten individually sealed 2 ml ampoules of sterile water. Nothing is added: the water contains no preservative, which makes it suitable for lab applications in which additives such as benzyl alcohol are undesirable – for example when reconstituting a lyophilised research peptide that is sensitive to them, or for dilutions. Because every ampoule is sealed individually, the other nine stay closed and untouched while you use one.
Without a preservative, an opened ampoule cannot be kept sterile. The rule is therefore simple: open an ampoule, take what you need and discard the rest. The small 2 ml volume keeps waste to a minimum. If you need to make several withdrawals from one container, bacteriostatic water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol is the more practical option.
Store the sterile water ampoules at room temperature, protected from light, ideally in their original box. Check each ampoule before opening and discard it if the seal is damaged or the water is not clear. Looking to buy sterile water ampoules? They are sold as a laboratory supply for research use only – not for human or veterinary use.
Sterile water contains no preservative and is for single use. Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth, so a vial can be punctured repeatedly.
No. Because there is no preservative, an opened ampoule should be used once and any remaining water discarded.
At room temperature and away from light, preferably in the original box until use.
No. These ampoules are a laboratory supply for reconstituting and diluting research compounds. They are not intended for human or veterinary use.
